7 Ways to Prepare Your Hair for Winter
Winter’s cooler temperature brings dry air. Is your hair prepared? Get a jumpstart on your hair’s health and be intentional about your natural hair regimen. Use these 7 tips to prepare your hair for winter.
MOISTURIZE
In winter all hair types need extra moisture. You’ll want to add and lock in moisture with water-based hair products. Be sure to read labels and avoid sulfates and parabens because they dry out your hair. Our all-natural products make it easy to moisturize your hair. Try these.
DO A HOT OIL TREATMENT
If you’ve never done a hot oil treatment, winter is a great time to start. The easiest way to do this is by using our Luxe Hair Growth Oil. Simply warm 2-4 Tablespoons of oil and evenly distribute it throughout your hair. Cover your hair with a plastic cap or bag for 15-30 minutes, then rinse the oil out. Repeat weekly or as desired. This will revitalize your hair and lock in moisture.
DRINK WATER
If you are dehydrated, so is your hair. Winter is the perfect time to drink more water for healthy hair. You could gift yourself a cute new water bottle and challenge yourself to drink at least 64 ounces each day. Some women find it easier to drink more water when they use a straw or add fruits and herbs for flavor. Try lemon, mint, or cucumber.
AVOID HEAT STYLINE
It is best to air dry your hair as often as possible. Heat styling intensifies winter’s dry air and removes additional moisture from your hair. Air-drying and non-heat styling may take some planning and creativity. You could wash your hair in the evening or on weekends, for instance. Instead of straightening or curling your hair, use the winter to try new styles. Experiment with braids, buns, and twists.
SOOTHE YOUR SCALP
It’s easy to develop dry scalp in winter. Moisturize a dry, itchy scalp with natural oils such as those in our Soothe & Grow Hair Balm. Our lightweight hair balm is a unique blend of honey nectar, shea butter, grapeseed oil, babassu oil, and avocado oil. Just massage the balm onto your scalp 3-4 times per week or as needed.
USE A HUMIDIFIER
Indoor heating pulls moisture out of your skin and hair. One thing you can do to help is by using a humidifier. A humidifier will add moisture inside your home. Just be sure to keep it a few feet away from windows and walls so you don’t create unwanted condensation.
GET A TRIM
Prepare for winter by heading to your stylist. Ask for a trim to remove about half an inch from the bottom of your hair to remove any split ends. Then, be sure to go back again in 4-8 weeks to prevent new split ends from forming.
